The Amityville Horror (1979) Movie Review
I watched this movie for the first time recently and really enjoyed it lol. It's obviously super tasteless but Tom Green's complete commitment to making something this tasteless is almost respectable, and at the very least, it's certainly memorable. The soundtrack largely being punk songs work well too, since the movie shares a lot of punk's shock sensibilities. My biggest issue with the movie is that it actually didn't go far enough. All the most shocking and memorable scenes happen in the first half so the whole thing loses steam by the second half. That first half was so shocking and tasteless that the movie wasn't able to sustain it for the rest of the runtime lol
I kinda conflicted to read this legends book. I would agree that the art on hardcover book is gorgeous. Thanks for your review!
I am very interested to read the canon counterpart The Princess and the Scoundrel and compare.
Ngl for Legend of the Neverbeast knowing that it was the last Tinkerbell movie made and DisneyToon Studios last movie it made the ending even sadder even though it probably wasn’t intentional.
I completely agree!
Not one of my favorites but a decent fantasy Disney film.
I definitely agree Josh
I want to are you I. Don’t care I like Disney toon Studios Worst and best I don’t care
Just saw this movie last night and was looking for a review, surprised that I basically agree with everything you said. Well spoken and articulate review.
UA-cam has the Kino release and the music is excellent.
Thank you so much for telling me! I want to eventually get the Kino Blu-ray as well
I just finished the last chapter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. By far, my favorite character is Mazamette.
I think a better anagram for 'vampire' is Eva Prim.
Have you seen the 'Irma Vep' miniseries on HBO?
I haven’t I didn’t know there was one?
@@ImJaredRoss I've yet to see it myself, but I'm looking forward to it.
The moment someone says - "don't watch this because of this reason". Makes me question their biases and makes me want to watch it even more so. I mean they obviously watched it how else would they know
Couldnt put it better. The hair was good
Only a couple of Peters games lived up to the hype and that was Fable 1 and Black and White
I actually don’t know much about Black and White, I’ll have to look it up!
@@ImJaredRossold school god game on PC. There were two and they were great. Lionhead studios went defunct and I cannot find a ROM to play either one. Virtually impossible to play nowadays
@@alphared4655 man that’s disappointing. I hate that lost media is a thing.
@@ImJaredRosso man it was such a good game. You raise an animal that ends up being huge and then you use the animal to rule a kingdom of humans who start out with nothing. The best sandbox god game to ever exist and it’s a shame it’s unplayable. This was back in like 2003 give or take a couple years. Great channel btw. It would be cool to see some videos about games you can’t play anymore. But at the same time it’s such a killer because a lot of them were so so so good.
If you do a play through of Fable 1, do not do a straight hand to hand character. I did that on my first play through, and could not really fight the final boss. You need magic or bows. You can heavy foccus on mele, but you need to be oay with range. When I was dating my wife I introduced her to this game, thoughbshe told me she did not like video games. She got addicted and it destroyed her sleep paterns for a bit. She really liked Fable III as well. Honestly, I also enjoyed Fable III. It has a lot of issues, but I found it fun.
I will keep that in mind! I never ended up owning Fable Anniversary but would like to. I own the Lost Missions on Steam but don’t have a desktop to play it right now.
My dude you're super handsome! <3

Solid game review. Nice to see a mix of games and books with movies here.
Thanks so much Joshua! Next review I think I’m going to make sure I have more footage to showcase what I want for the review so hopefully it will be even better
@@ImJaredRoss You're welcome, Jared.
His review is a bit too long.
It’s 8 minutes?
Troll 2 was made some years after Bad Taste was released
i wonder if Disney would put this on their streaming platforms. after all Freddy Got Fingered is made by Fox, meaning its now owned by Disney
What’s even funnier I watched it on the Criterion Channel. They had it under their Razzie movie section
Aaahhh. Pinocchio. The film that took all the lessons from Snow White and perfected them. I really love Pinocchio. The soundtrack is really good. Even the instrumental soundtracks such as when Pinocchio is searching underwater and when Gepetto is despairing about starving. Those scores really put you in the same mood as the characters are and sound like they could be used in any film with a similar situation. Also, the animation is wonderful. All those clocks and the puppet show. And the Blue Fairy. I always thought it was interesting how Pinocchio looks more German. But some fans said the film is probably set in Tyrol. That works for me because days could have passed before Pinocchio met up with Gepetto in Monstro.
The clocks were definitely my favorite part as a kid!
Disney+ thought it came out on 1945
It premiered in the U.S. in 1945 but its first premiere was in Mexico City in 1944
It premiered in Mexico City in 1944 and the U.S. in 1945

Not a particular fan of grossout humor - when it's funny it's funny; when it's not it's not. I could certainly see this movie being as terrible as they say with a director who doesn't appreciate Tom Green and with standard comedy acting. As it happens, the casting was perfect for Green's style of absurdity and of course the director "gets" Green. I also get Green. If it was just grossout humor, others would be able to emulate it. All who have tried have made fools of themselves, achieving exactly what Green is accused of by those who don't appreciate him. For a brief but potent example of what this looks like, watch the outtake at the end where his then girlfriend (Barrymore) tries to embody the character of his art showing that in fact, it's not easy being green.
oh the single best movie of all time? this was my 'netflix and chill' DVD from 2003-201, such an aphrodisiac. ;_; its a satire of all those late 90s early 2000s sentimental gross comedies but replacing dorky aw shucks Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler or Jason Biggs with Gord. He spends 250k of his million dollars on 'jewels' then gives them to Betty for the emotional peak of the relationship and she says "I don't care about jewels I just want to suck your cock"
I watched this film and I am utterly impressed, it is much better than many of today's films
It’s one I think about far after the film is over. As you said, it’s impressive!
You inspired me to try to watch more disney movies with that lists, ty jared
you talk about nothing until 11:55 nearly a whole twelve minutes of utter tosh
This was a review of my favorite movie of all time and I wanted to not only talk about the movie itself, but my personal story with it. I also split the review up into time codes so that people could get straight to the review instead of going over the first 12 minutes.
@@ImJaredRoss ok cool
Michael Caine with two Oscars is hardly under-rated-he’s completely excellent in the worst movies he ever was paid to act in!
Yoooo, get it brethren! UA-cam Shorts can be great to consider. Also TikTok has a humongous book community. #BookTok
Definitely going to start doing Shorts for sure!
Great video! Glad that you’re bringing back the book/video games reviews and that you’re doing what you enjoy. I used to review books and other things on my channel until I decided to focus on film reviews and review books on my other channels. It can be challenging jumping between channels it keeps me busy haha. Looking forward to the reviews to come!
Thank you so much! I debated on making a second channel, but book and video game reviews take a bit longer because you put multiple long hours into them whereas movies are done in two hours. So, having the main focus being movies with the added bonus of books and games will work.
Great analysis! That said, I think the BOOK should get as much criticism! It set the stage for the screenplay. Honestly Jeff Shaara is such a bad author. Much like Brian Herbert he has used his father’s incredible reputation to make a quick buck. One question, what mic and camera do you use? I’m thinking of starting my own UA-cam Channel.
I’m glad you brought up the book because I was wondering if the book was like this at all? And I’ve just been using the base microphone from my iPhone to record video and sound. I’d like to eventually move on to something better for sound or at least buy a mic, but using the iPhone to record is just very convenient and easy for me. Only problem is the iPhone’s base will pick up anything from cars passing by to sirens. Thank you for asking!
no thats not how he got the silver leg because in the end he had both golden legs
This movie is a classic in all ways. Loved, loved loved this movie.
For me, this film ranks up there with The Shawshank Redemption. I just discovered this film recently and have watched it everyday since. Can't watch it enough.
Nice overview and review. I like both a lot, they have stuck in my head since childhood lol. I still find them to be hilarious.
Hello. Enjoyed watching your review. I agree that Dumbo is not very memorable and it doesn’t really stick with me. I do like some of the scenes and the animation works just fine. Perhaps the reason why Dumbo isn’t my favorites is because it doesn’t have the impressive animation and the story feels really thin. This will sound crazy but for me The Lion King is down there with Dumbo for me. It really isn’t one of my favorites.
Everobody, inclusive in school should be shown, like in german schools the nurenberg rally, educate your children
I get where you come from with your feelings on this movie. I do like and enjoy it, but I like many of the later movies more. Ironically, for me, my favorite part is the middle act where she is at the Dwarf's cottage. I thought the forest run was too dramatic and a bit long but the animation is impressive and the score. I also thought the Queen's transformation into the Hag was too over the top. My least favorite part is the third act where the Queen kills her. I felt the Queen's demise was rushed and poorly done for my tastes. I would have liked her death to have followed the book version more. Or just have her watching the dwarfs from a cliff when they get home and gloat in their sadness and then have lightning strike her. I also thought the way Snow White gets awakened was a bit too deus ex machina. The antidote is Love's First Kiss?? Come on. It would have been better for her to be revived like she was in the book. The way Aurora gets revived in Sleeping Beauty makes sense because it was Merryweather's gift to her. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is good but not great!! Sorry to go on so long!! 😅
I can’t believe how little this movie is talked about.
Hey a few years ago you reviewed eyes of the mothman I just wanna say that my dad is Matthew J Pellowski and he made the movie
Seriously?? That’s so cool! Eyes of the Mothman is one of my favorite documentaries period and such an underrated gem. I watch it at least a few times a year now. I’m absolutely honored you contacted me! I hope he’s doing well. I actually had plans of doing an updated review of his film because that was one of my very first reviews on the platform.
@@ImJaredRoss there’s also a eyes of the mothman podcast coming out this year
I will be tuning in for sure! That’s so exciting to hear!

George of the Jungle is a rare example of a live action cartoon movie done right. While a reimagining/reinterpretation of the cartoon, it still sticks to its source material and is faithful to the Jay Ward cartoon in mighty spirit. Something that most live action adaptations or cartoons should’ve taken notes from.
This is exactly why I love it so much. It unapologetically sticks to what it is 🤣
Zootopia is like chicken little evolution,a A city full of animals but much better
Im gonna give a chance to those pooh movies, i always rejected em because they look like little kids movies.
You definitely should especially the ones that got theatrical releases
Atlantis - they made the princess ugly in return of milo
I'm quite a bit older than you, but I also had a hard time with silent films as a kid; as I matured I developed an appreciation for the silents and probably had a better experience as a result. I find it amazing that the filmmakers took a chance on having the lead actors fly the planes with cameras mounted on them in order to get the shots (an insurance company would never go for that in the years that followed). I agree with your opinion that the film is worthwhile and the restoration gives us a sense of what the original theatrical showings were like. Much has been made of the kiss, but I don't see it as anything out of the ordinary; if my best friend was dying in my arms, I would kiss his face too. Thanks for offering your insight and hopefully you will encourage others to take in this movie.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. This was a really incredible movie to watch and just another reason why I love the silent era now. This is really one that will stick with me.
Once again, you surprised me. I remember how you used to not like Rite of Spring. Not to mention how you used to like Pinocchio more. I like Fantasia too, I like it more than Dumbo and Lady and the Tramp. I love the music, sequences, and animation. Personally, I find Rite of Spring to be the weakest. I think I like Toccatta and Fugue more than Nutcracker Suite. I also like Dance of the Hours more than Pastoral Symphony. Neat review.
It’s really interesting how a rewatch can change your perspective! I wonder what I’d think with a rewatch even now. Thank you for the awesome comment and I’m glad you’re enjoying my Disney content
So much to say so forgive me for the long comment lol. I wholeheartedly agree with almost all of your review. It's wild how much this influenced subsequent war movies, both in its visual language and narrative tropes. It's so ahead of its time and the action scenes are still incredibly impressive. And the kiss, whether you interpret it as romantic or not, is still surprising and ahead of its time. My only issue with the movie is that Clara Bow definitely gives the beat performance here, but the movie doesn't really know what to do with her and she's never really incorporated into the plot in any meaningful way. I was also surprised that you didn't mention the restoration here. I'm assuming the restoration was the version you watched since it's the widely available version of the movie. I really, really hate the fact that they added sound effects to the restoration. It's distracting and makes the lack of audible dialogue or any other sound jarring in a way it otherwise wouldn't be. It's still a great movie, but the restoration is questionable.
Thank you for the awesome comment! I definitely agree they really don’t know how to incorporate Clara Bow especially after her exit from the war. Also, it’s been at least 2 weeks since I’ve watched the film and I’m guessing I had to have watched the restoration because it was the one available on Tubi so I can’t really remember that part too well, but I will definitely pay attention to it on rewatch!
The restoration recreates the way it would have been seen (and heard) by audiences in 1927 in theaters that could do it. The music score is the same that was distributed to theaters that could sync a pre-recorded audio to the film. The sound effects of gunfire, machine guns, etc were also recreations of how they would have been produced behind the screen at theaters that could do it. William Wellman's son endorsed the restored version and said this was the way his father had intended it even though not all movie theaters in 1927 were capable of providing the full effects. Clara Bow's part was added to the script because studio execs didn't believe Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen were known enough to bring in audiences. in fact, the studio wanted to use famous and popular stars Charlie Farrell and Neil Hamilton, but Wellman nixed them and insisted on using unknown actors to play the parts; he didn't want audiences watching their favorite stars, he wanted audiences to identify with unfamiliar faces and to that extent he was right. Rogers and Arlen became stars overnight; Arlen became one of Paramount's hottest stars and remained so well into the 1930s. Clara Bow's part was an afterthought, a bit of insurance to bring in audiences who might not otherwise have bothered.
